Baumgartner’s Furniture: About Us

Baumgartner’s Furniture

The History

Our furniture store is a family-owned, locally-operated business serving Mid-Missouri for over six decades.  George Baumgartner founded the business in 1949 and since then, we have remained committed to serving our clients with a personal approach in mind.  For four generations, Baumgartner’s has offered hometown hospitality to our customers.

George Baumgartner

The Baumgartner’s Furniture story begins in mid-1940s, when Emmett Baumgartner quit his job at the shoe factory in Fulton, Missouri to open a gas station in Kingdom City with his son, George.  Although George was only 18 at the time, he possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit. So before long, the father-son team expanded their business operation to include towing and taxi services, and eventually they opened a restaurant adjacent to the station. During this time, they also started to dabble in furniture sales and even sold the first television sets in the area. However, when an 18-wheeler plowed through the front of the restaurant, they decided to take the business in a new direction. George left to open up a furniture store in Auxvasse.  Once the store was up and running, Emmett closed the gas station and joined his son.

Living Room

Living Room – Does yours feel warm and cozy?

Do you have a living room that just doesn’t feel very cozy?  Your living room should be the place where you can sit and relax, or entertain when friends and family come to visit.  What are some ways to help make your room feel a little cozier?

Here are Five tips that may help:

  1. Seating Arrangement.  Are your chairs and sofas in a manner where everyone can see each other if they are sitting?  This makes conversations easier to hear and engage.  A living or family room is normally a place where people talk and socialize.  The seats should be organized in a way it is accommodating to others, not accommodating to where the television is in the room.  Sure, people may watch television in the living room, but it is not the main focus.
  2. Accessories.  Sometimes, something as simple as lamps can really make a room feel cozier.  There are so many lamp options; it will be easy to find one that goes with your décor.  There are also different types of light bulbs.  You can get light bulbs that are soft, bright, 3-way, or energy-efficient.  Depending on the room tone you want to have in your family room, the lighting of the room can really help make that statement.
  3. Do you not have a green-thumb?  That’s okay, there are artificial flowers and trees that look very real, and will not need the tender loving care real flowers and trees need.  Did you know, depending on the type of flower or tree, having real flowers and trees can help with the oxygen in your room?  So, not only does it help ‘look’ good, it also ‘feels’ good, too!  Many people also mix real and artificial in the family room and throughout the rest of the house.  The artificial plant stays in the house year-round, while the real flowers come in for the winter, but go outside on the porch or deck during the summer.  This often helps fill the gaps or voids behind chairs or end tables.
  4. Pillows and Throws.  Something so small can have such a big impact on a family room.  Pillows and throws are small enough you can go bold if you would like.  This can liven up a room without completely changing your room (painting walls, etc).
  5. Picture Frames.  What better way to make your room feel cozy than the love of friends and family?  Take some of your favorite pictures, print them in a variety of sizes, and place them on the end tables next to your lamps in your family room.  Also, don’t think that having all the pictures printed in the same color or same frame is needed.  It adds more character to your room when you have different picture frames.

Headboards

Headboards That Define You

Headboards can make your statement in the bedroom. Just think, when you walk into a bedroom, what is your eye normally drawn to? The headboard is the tallest part of the bed, so naturally, the first item we see when we first walk into a bedroom. Then, we are naturally drawn to look at the rest of the bedding (pillows, comforter, and shams).

Often, headboards come in a complete bedroom set.  This is where the headboard matches the night stand, dresser, and the chest. Buying a set makes sense; it is convenient, looks good, makes the room flow and is easy to tie different pieces together.  Also, with a bedroom set, you know the headboard will fit on your bed frame, railings, base, etc. Also, it is nice to have the movers put it all together for you, so you don’t have to worry about that hassle!

Headboards

A popular item that seems to be on the rise are solid fabric headboards. This also has a nice flow in the bedroom. The nightstand, dresser and chest match, and the headboard statement has a little more personality as a solid color that ties the room all together.  We have a matching headboard in our bedroom, but in our son’s room, we have a fabric solid-color headboard. There are a couple of reasons why we chose this route. The first reason is it will always tie in nicely with his décor changes in the future. It is a dark brown color, something that will match almost anything. Another reason is because this headboard is softer than an iron or wood headboard. If he hits it (due to his arm flops in the middle of the night or plops on his pillow when he is about to get his book read to him).

There are also those who chose to have iron headboards, which adds a nice, sleek look. Others may have their beds under a window, so the window acts as the headboard (hopefully they move away during the thunderstorms!). Others use a decal of some kind on the wall; whether it is shelves above their bed or even vinyl writing or design. There isn’t a right or wrong headboard. Headboards can set the tone for the overall room appearance and/or statement in the bedroom.

What kind of headboard do you have in your bedroom? Do you have one that matches your furniture? Do you have something a little more unique and personal? Or, do you have one you have created yourself?
