Headboards That Define You

Headboards can make your statement in the bedroom. Just think, when you walk into a bedroom, what is your eye normally drawn to? The headboard is the tallest part of the bed, so naturally, the first item we see when we first walk into a bedroom. Then, we are naturally drawn to look at the rest of the bedding (pillows, comforter, and shams).

Often, headboards come in a complete bedroom set.  This is where the headboard matches the night stand, dresser, and the chest. Buying a set makes sense; it is convenient, looks good, makes the room flow and is easy to tie different pieces together.  Also, with a bedroom set, you know the headboard will fit on your bed frame, railings, base, etc. Also, it is nice to have the movers put it all together for you, so you don’t have to worry about that hassle!

A popular item that seems to be on the rise are solid fabric headboards. This also has a nice flow in the bedroom. The nightstand, dresser and chest match, and the headboard statement has a little more personality as a solid color that ties the room all together.  We have a matching headboard in our bedroom, but in our son’s room, we have a fabric solid-color headboard. There are a couple of reasons why we chose this route. The first reason is it will always tie in nicely with his décor changes in the future. It is a dark brown color, something that will match almost anything. Another reason is because this headboard is softer than an iron or wood headboard. If he hits it (due to his arm flops in the middle of the night or plops on his pillow when he is about to get his book read to him).

There are also those who chose to have iron headboards, which adds a nice, sleek look. Others may have their beds under a window, so the window acts as the headboard (hopefully they move away during the thunderstorms!). Others use a decal of some kind on the wall; whether it is shelves above their bed or even vinyl writing or design. There isn’t a right or wrong headboard. Headboards can set the tone for the overall room appearance and/or statement in the bedroom.

What kind of headboard do you have in your bedroom? Do you have one that matches your furniture? Do you have something a little more unique and personal? Or, do you have one you have created yourself?
